Why involving young people in research is important and how it changed the PERFORM study.

The core outcome for the PERFORM study focusses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of febrile children. PERFORM researchers, Dr Emma Lim and Prof Marieke Emonts with their team, involved young people early on in the project by joining forces with The Young Person’s Advisory Group North England (YPAGne). We talk to Dr Emma Lim and members of the YPAGne community about the unexpected turns they and the young people experienced and outcomes.

COVID-19 - From New Challenges to New Solutions

The PERFORM consortium are optimistic their novel diagnostic approaches can accelerate the understanding of COVID-19. It has been a trying time, many aspects of our lives have changed and as we move towards an endzone, the rhetoric of ‘back to normal’ seems more likely to be a normal, version 2.0. Many research projects, especially those involving clinical research, have been abruptly stopped in their tracks by COVID-19. However the consortia of PERFORM and its cousin EU-funded project, DIAMONDS (commenced January 2020) have rapidly adapted to apply their expertise to tackling this new virus.

PERFORM General Assembly 2019 in Lyon

5 November 2019

It is only a gathering that occurs once a year but the PERFORM team reunited for the General Assembly in October and, it was a huge success. The meeting was hosted by PERFORM partner, bioMérieux and held at the picturesque Mérieux Université in Lyon. After the usual quick catch-ups over coffee and tea, the Assembly was opened by Professor Mike Levin, coordinator of the project. Prof Levin summarised the amazing work that had taken place over the past year and express his deep commendations to all the consortium for their hard work and dedication.
