Micropathology Ltd is the largest dedicated rapid molecular diagnostic laboratory in the UK, serving more than 180 National Health Service hospitals (including all the major infectious disease centres).

The laboratory is sited within the University of Warwick Science park, employing 15 post-doctoral staff. Micropathology Ltd also provides teaching facilities for undergraduates and funds postgraduate research students (in association with major UK grant giving bodies). The Medical Director, Dr Colin G Fink is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University and contributes to both undergraduate and post-graduate teaching courses. The company has 20 years’ experience in designing and implementing assays for molecular diagnostics, which are validated to ISO and CPA standards. Within Europe, it has the largest portfolio of organism assays under one roof.

Main tasks under the Project:

Micropathology Ltd will undertake all molecular diagnostic analysis of patient samples for the presence of infectious organisms. Furthermore the diagnostic facilities are sufficiently sensitive that the determination of multiple organisms present in patient samples will provide an opportunity to further evaluate the relative importance of these organisms found within individuals investigated for fever on acute medical presentation
